Kraken Technologies, part of Octopus Energy Group, licenses the Kraken platform and operating model to clients worldwide. Our diverse client base includes Octopus Energy retail businesses and external clients like Good Energy, Origin, EDF, E.ON, Queensland Energy, and many more.
Our Team: Multidisciplinary Engineering Excellence
Our global team of 450+ engineers, including server-side, client-side, and mobile experts, collaborates closely with UX experts, copywriters, and designers. We follow a Kanban-like approach, utilizing Google Docs and Asana for work specification and management. Our immutable-infrastructure, continuous delivery pipeline includes Github, CircleCI, and Terraform Enterprise. Performance measurement and production monitoring are achieved through Loggly, Sentry, and Cloudwatch.
Our Technology: Python, Django, AWS, and More
On the server-side, Python is our primary language. Most of our websites are powered by Django, Django-REST-framework, and GraphQL (Graphene). We extensively utilize AWS, employing the "Hashistack" (Packer, Consul, Terraform) as part of our continuous deployment pipeline. Client-side, we rely on React, Redux, and SASS, while our mobile apps are built using native code or React Native.
Your Role: Solving Complex Energy Challenges
As a Software Engineer, you'll tackle intricate design challenges in the complex, outdated, and process-heavy French energy market. Strong attention to detail is essential as you navigate domain modeling and technical complexities. With the advent of smart meters, we'll soon process millions of meter readings daily, requiring robust technology and machine learning pipelines for data handling and consumption modeling.
What You'll Bring: Expertise and Diligence
We seek a problem-solving technologist with a general interest in technology, diligence, and thoughtfulness. Experience and expertise in the following areas are highly valued (in rough priority order):
- Python (mid to senior level)
- Django (or equivalent web framework)
- Fluency in French and at least B2 level in English
- Domain modeling
- HTTP and REST APIs
- Writing robust and fault-tolerant software
- Celery and async processing
- Postgres
- Ability to attend our 2 on-site days per week at the Paris office
Additional experience in AWS, Terraform, Packer, Consul, React, and Redux would be advantageous.
