Team 👥

The Global Audit & Assessment (GAA) team, part of the Safety & Quality department, ensures the quality of software for safe mobility services across Woven by Toyota, Toyota Motor Corporation, and affiliates. Our mission is to deliver safe, secure, high-quality software, contributing to Toyota's evolution as a software-driven carmaker.

The GAA team sets audit and assessment standards, develops audit plans, and conducts assessments. Join our team of professionals committed to software safety and quality in the automotive industry.

You will report to the Team Lead of the Global Audit & Assessment team and follow a hybrid schedule with 3+ days in the office.


Who Are We Looking For? 🔎

We are looking for exceptional candidates for engineering roles dedicated to developing safety measures for automated driving systems, software, and tools. You will help establish safety-related organizational processes and environments that support system and software development, including audits and assessments.

Rather than only prioritizing experience in system or software development, we are also looking for individuals who are enthusiastic and motivated to build processes based on the latest technological trends, ensuring that our software development teams maintain a strong focus on safety.


Therefore, we need an engineer who can:

  • Adapt and derive optimal solutions by considering diverse perspectives.
  • Effectively negotiate with teams using deep knowledge of quality and safety assurance.
  • Foster positive relationships with team members and stakeholders.

Responsibilities: 🛠️

  • Review software project work products, including FuSa plans, safety cases, impact analyses, and software safety analyses.
  • Provide training and guidance to engineers on navigating FuSa processes for mass production software products.
  • Serve as a liaison between Woven by Toyota and Tier 1 suppliers/OEMs for software safety requirements.
  • Establish safety-related standard processes, including safety management systems and safety of intended functionality.
  • Develop processes and guidelines for the safe deployment of AI and machine learning systems, focusing on risk management, testing, and validation.
  • Promote a safety culture where developers adhere to safety processes.
  • Lead in-house developments of safety-related processes.
  • Report on compliance with safety-related organizational processes.
  • Teach safe design practices to ensure proper implementation of safety mechanisms.
  • Verify safety measures by identifying potential risks and ensuring mitigation to acceptable levels.
  • Document safety assessments to support accountability and traceability.
  • Plan and conduct functional safety audits, evaluating safety processes across development projects.
  • Create safety-related audit and assessment programs aligned with product development roadmaps.

Minimum Qualifications: 🎓

  • 5+ years of experience in embedded software development.
  • Experience leading safety analysis using methodologies such as FMEA, FTA, or HAZOP.
  • Training experience in safety-related standards (ISO 26262, SOTIF, automotive standards for AI/ML).
  • Proficiency in Japanese and English.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle and automotive industry best practices, like Automotive SPICE.
  • Working knowledge of Quality and Audit Management Systems, with hands-on experience implementing ISO 9001 and ISO 19011.
  • Experience with configuration management processes and tool setups.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for engaging with multiple stakeholders.

Nice to Haves: ✨

  • 2+ years of experience conducting automotive software safety audits and assessments.
  • Certification as an automotive software safety expert.
  • Knowledge and experience in software cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434).
