About the Job 🛠️

Managed Databases team: responsible for Relational DB (PostgreSQL, MySQL) & Redis offerings, pillars of Scaleway's cloud ecosystem, enabling customers to securely store and access data without infrastructure worries.
Engineering Manager role: equally balanced between managerial and technical responsibilities.
Agile methodologies, often Scrum, are used by all teams, with collaborative projects monitored via these platforms.

Managerial Responsibilities 👨‍💼

Team Care:
- Administrative tasks: planning, vacation requests, etc.
- Focus on improving team members' skills and knowledge by understanding their strengths, limitations, and goals.
- Find the most efficient way of working as a team.
- Monitor and optimize team velocity and delivery capacity with the Product Manager.
Technical Leadership:
- Collaborate with other teams and managers to carry out technical tasks, ensuring your team has what it needs for its products.
- Deep understanding of database servers' internals.
- Team's main programming languages: Python & Golang.
- Code, handle customer escalations from support, and manage product infrastructure (software upgrades & reliability).
- Avoid over-engineering and find pragmatic solutions to technical problems.
- Facilitate the team by providing everything they need to focus on their tasks, in sync with other company managers.

Preferred Qualifications 📚

Experience in Python and/or Golang development, REST and gRPC APIs.
Database clustering and management, troubleshooting, system and database tuning, high availability mechanisms.
Understanding of Linux System Administration and container technology.
Knowledge of cloud ecosystems.
DevOps mindset.
Open-minded and adaptable.
Strong empathy.
Result-oriented attitude.
Clear communication.
Good command of English.

Responsibilities ⚙️

Embody engineering activities within the company and your team.
Hire, manage, support, and develop a team (career path, salary and compensation, personal knowledge and skills improvement).
Build innovative features for products using the latest technologies with your team.
Coordinate the team, monitor project progress, and organize work using Agile methodologies.
Balance team workload between technical debt management, rollouts, and new projects.
Collaborate with Product Managers & Marketing teams to ensure the team does the "right" things (the "why," then the "what," and finally the "how").
Communicate up and down the chain to align the team with company objectives and ensure their voice is heard.
Monitor and optimize team velocity and its capacity to deliver quality products and services on time.
Facilitate collaboration with other engineering teams.
Stay grounded by coding as a "doer" with your team.
Work on transversal initiatives within Scaleway's Engineering Manager Guild.
