Team: Toyota's Woven City
Toyota's Woven City is a fully connected ecosystem powered by hydrogen fuel cells, envisioned as a 'living laboratory' and 'ever evolving' at the base of Mt. Fuji in Japan. It will serve as the world's most programmable city, prioritizing human-centricity, safety, comfort, and happiness for its citizens.
Our mission is to create the digital heart of Woven City, a software platform called "Agora." This platform will orchestrate and deliver all digitally connected services in the city, presenting a significant technical challenge. We aim to create state-of-the-art systems for collaborating microservices, identity, authentication, privacy, security, brokering data, IoT control, and more.
The City OS Platform's Data team is responsible for providing systems, services, tools, and mechanisms that enable teams to securely, resiliently, and privacy-respectingly store, manage, and share data on the platform.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking Engineers for individual contributor roles based in Tokyo. These roles report to a City OS Team Lead or Manager, focusing on delivering our platform. Our highly technical team of software engineers works in a hybrid workplace environment.

Responsibilities:
- Collaborate closely with other engineers to develop and document requirements, architecture, design, code, and tests for City's data systems/services.
- Develop a mission-critical RESTful API service.
- Implement features and requirements received from stakeholders.
- Collaborate with teams building digital services to help them get the most out of their data on the City OS platform.
- Provide technical support for service teams using City Platform/WCM Consent Services.
- Work on the productionization of a Mission Critical city service.
- Take on SRE/DevOps responsibilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of API/Web-based software and service development.
- Generalist programming ability, including the ability to quickly learn and use new programming languages (such as Rust, Go-Lang, or others).
- Experience with SQL RDBMS services.
- Good communication, a proactive mindset, and strong problem-identification and solving skills.
- Proficiency in business-level English.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience in a technical support role or SRE role.
- Experience with Kubernetes.
- Experience developing for PostgreSQL.
- Experience with Rust programming language.
- Experience in Agile development teams and scrum.
- Proficiency in business-level Japanese language.
