Our growth is driving us to strengthen our Serverless Compute team to accelerate the development of our serverless offerings and ensure their reliability and performance.
Your mission will be to lead and develop a team of engineers while contributing to technical innovation and strategic alignment, ensuring our products remain at the forefront of the industry.
YOUR FUTURE TEAM: SERVERLESS COMPUTE AT SCALEWAY
At Scaleway, we work in a collaborative and international environment, where diverse backgrounds and idea-sharing drive ambitious cloud projects forward.
The Serverless Compute team is responsible for Serverless Functions, Serverless Containers, and Serverless Jobs:
Serverless Functions & Containers allow running code or container images on demand, automatically scaling infrastructure and charging only for actual usage.
Serverless Jobs enable running one-off or scheduled tasks using container images, dynamically allocating resources and billing only for what is consumed.
These products run on shared Kubernetes clusters, where security, stability, and performance pose major technical challenges. We leverage container security technologies like gVisor and Kata Containers to ensure user isolation and utilize various Scaleway products for system operations and monitoring. Additionally, we maintain open-source libraries, integrations, and examples to support our users.
ABOUT ENGINEERING MANAGEMENT AT SCALEWAY
Engineering Managers at Scaleway ensure product quality, stability, and cohesion. They are responsible for their teams’ effectiveness and satisfaction while focusing on high-impact products. This role involves both management and technical tasks, requiring a balance between leadership and hands-on expertise.
🗓️ Your daily routine includes:
Strategy & Product Coordination
- Act as a bridge between product and engineering, ensuring that the right solutions are built for the right problems and reasons
- Work closely with Product Managers and Marketing teams to align releases and communications
- Establish relationships with other Scaleway teams, particularly those responsible for other serverless and Kubernetes products
- Combine a deep understanding of user experience with a strong technical vision to design solutions that are both high-performing and user-friendly.
Team Management & Talent Development
- Recruit, manage, support, and develop a team of up to ten engineers (career paths, salaries, compensation, skill improvement).
- Oversee the team’s daily operations, monitor ongoing projects, organize workflows, plan for both short- and long-term goals
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives within Scaleway’s Engineering Managers Guild
- Unite the team around technical challenges and take on a leadership role to drive projects forward efficiently.
Technical Development & Innovation
- Design and develop innovative features and products in the serverless computing field
- Regularly contribute to the codebase of Serverless Compute products and stay updated on the technical details of our systems.
- Maintain a balanced approach between technical debt management, deployments, new features, proof-of-concept developments.
Reliability & Support
- Collaborate with SRE and architecture teams to ensure system stability and resilience, following industry best practices
- Participate in on-call rotations ("doctoring"), handling user issues and managing incident triage.
🔍 ABOUT YOU:
Preferred Technical Skills:
- Past experience in a technical/development role
- Dev-ops, SRE knowledge, and experience
- Experience designing, building, and running distributed systems
- Cluster management experience (Kubernetes, Nomad, Docker Swarm, etc.)
- Software development experience (preferably Golang/Python)
- Sysadmin/dev-ops experience (Linux, Ansible, Terraform, etc.)
- Experience building and scaling serverless applications
Preferred Management and Product Skills:
- 1+ year of engineering management experience
- Experience leading Agile teams (Scrum/Kanban)
- Knowledge of the serverless landscape and market products
- Experience working with cross-functional teams (product, design, docs)
- Pragmatic approach: knowing when to perfect vs. build a PoC
- Strong presentation and communication skills
- Mentoring and coaching experience
